Maybelline Color Tattoos - Limited Edition 2012 and Fall Shades

Maybelline has added eight limited edition shades to their 24-Hour Color Tattoo range.  The first four I found in my local drugstore in a display with the limited edition Great Lash Mascara shades.  Other than the seal, there is no difference from the Color Tattoo shades in their permanent range.

The four shades are:

Blue On By
Fuchsia Fever
Ready, Set, Green
Test My Teal

Here are close-ups of each shade:

In addition to these, there are four additional shades being offered under the Fall 2012 Scene on the Runway collection.

The four shades are:

Barely Beige
Gold Shimmer
Mossy Green
Rich Mahogany

While I was fortunate to get my hands on these lovely, limited edition shades, I was not lucky enough to get them on sale ($6.99 each).  As I eager to get them and feature them on my blog, I was not patient enough to wait for a sale.  Perhaps, I will get my back-ups on sale.

The Fall 2012 display also featured an eyeshadow brush ($2.99) so I purchased that as well.  The brush appears to have natural bristles and a fairly decent length handle.  It is easy to wash and dries quickly.  I used baby shampoo and noticed no shedding.  The brush appears to be different from the Maybelline Expert Tools Eyeshadow brush in that the ferrule is black and brush appears to be more tapered and rounded.

Overall rating:  Booyah!  I love the fact that Maybelline is expanding their shade range with this product.  However, I think that the Fall shades, being more neutral and warm, should be added to their permanent collection.  As with the initial Color Tattoo shades, I found better wearability with a primer.  All shades were nicely pigmented though I noticed that Blue on By and Fuchsia Fever were slightly temperamental, though not as bad as what others experienced with Painted Purple, from the permanent range.

Have you found any of these?  What are your thoughts?

Christian Dior 5 Couleurs Croisette Edition - Aurora

In this and some future posts, I will be sharing some new additions to my makeup collection from the House of Dior.  The new postings will have a combination of some limited edition and regular collection items.  I'd like to kick things off with information on a limited edition item as it's still available for purchase.

This summer, Dior brings us the Croisette Collection, which offers two 5 Couleurs Palettes, one described by Dior as "exploring aquatic pastels," named Swimming Pool [224] and the other, which is "reinterpreting the ochre of mediterranean lands," named Aurora [654].

Each palette contains 5 eyeshadow shades in a mirrored compact with 2 sponge applicators (7 grams of product; Retail $60) and the signature Dior velvet pouch.  The five shades of Aurora are light pink, ivory,  deep gold, burnt orange/coral, and deep brown.

Here is a close-up of the palette and swatches:

Overall rating: Booyah!

This is the perfect palette to recreate summer sunsets and the shades are versatile to work on most skin tones.

What are your thoughts of this palette?

Sigma Limited Edition Paris Palette

I just love my Sigma Bare, Dare, and Flare palettes so when I heard that Sigma was releasing a limited edition Paris palette, I just had to get it.

The Paris palette was part of the Paris Project, a collaboration between Sigma and 7 of my favorites bloggers (inspired eyeshadow shade based on assigned landmark location/monument in parentheses):
  • Petrilude (Louvre)
  • FromHeadtoToe (Triomphe)
  • DulceCandy87 (Élysées)
  • XSparkage (Versailles)
  • MacNC40 (Orsay)
  • MakeupbyTiffanyD (Eiffel)
  • Xteeener (Notre Dame)
The mirrored palette is packaged with a postcard motif and includes a booklet about the bloggers and the inspiration behind their shades.  Contents are 8 eyeshadows (net weight 12g), 2 blush shades and 1 highlight shade (net weight 12g) plus 2 Sigma brushes (E55 and F40).  Retail cost for each palette is $59.

Here's my description of each shade:
  • Eiffel - shimmery black (glitter)
  • Seine - royal blue frost
  • Louvre - turquoise
  • Orsay - shimmery seafoam green (glitter)
  • Élysées - plum frost
  • Notre Dame - shimmery taupe (glitter) (reminds me of MAC Satin Taupe)
  • Triomphe - brown/green duochrome (reminds me of MAC Club)
  • Versailles - shimmery ivory (glitter)
  • Rouge (blush) - matte mauve/plum
  • Pêche (blush) - matte ruddy peach
  • Lumière - shimmery ivory
Here's a closeup of the first 4 eyeshadows and swatches:

Overall rating:  Booyah!

I love the mix of shades, from some nice neutral shades to some bright, bold colors.  So happy that the brushes weren't double-ended like those included in Bare, Dare and Flare, as I find them difficult to store.

Hoping this is just the beginning of location-inspired palettes and that Sigma will be coming up with other editions.  If you'd like your own Paris palette, please click here.

Tarte smolderEYES Limited-Edition Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner Collection

Here's another installment from my beauty.com Cyber Monday 20% offer, the tarte smolderEYES Limited-Edition Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner Collection.  This set includes 6 full-sized (1.6g) smolderEYES pencils in: Golden Beige, Moss, Violet, Smoke, Espresso, and Silver Black as well as a sharpener to keep them ready-to-go.

I love these pencils as they are easy to apply if you're looking for a smoky look.  The product glides on smoothly and, if you work quickly, can be smudged nicely with the built-in smudger tip.  These liners are budge-proof and, in my opinion, can only be improved by offering a twist-up feature, like the Lip Surgence pencils and a more narrow point, for those of us that prefer a more precise application.  These pencils typically retail for $25 so this set was a major bargain at $39 for 6 shades and sharpener, plus 20% off.

tarte says:
